Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Teams : Case Reviews

Key agencies that should be included in case reviews include those agencies that comprise the MDT: healthcare professionals with special training in child maltreatment, mental health counselors, victim advocates, and professionals from law enforcement, child protective services, and prosecution.

A professional from the appropriate agency/agencies is expected to present:

  1. Medical assessments, including review of documentation of potential injuries, lab and radiology reports, and forensic evidence when applicable. Pertinent information about the child’s history (history of the present illness and past medical, family, and social histories) should also be presented.
  2. Family assessments, including information about the family dynamics and the child’s home environment.
  3. Psychological assessments, including a review of the child’s mental health, and recommendations for therapy or counseling if not already being addressed.
  4. Legal review, including information related to the investigative process.
  5. Information related to how the child’s medical, mental health, and family/social needs will be met in the short term as well as the long term.
